4 th week reflection

The second phase of teaching practice has resumed after the half-yearly examinations and the Christmas vacation followed on 29th December 2024 on the reopening day of GGHSS, Cottonhill. I got to teach at the same classes - 8A and 8E. I started a new chapter in 8 A - 'Area of quadrilateral'. I started from the 12th lesson template in the class 8H as well from the chapter 'Ratio'. In this week, there has been arrangements at the school as part of the Kerala School Arts Festival which is being held in Thiruvananthapuram this year. The inauguration ceremony of collecting food ingredients as part of the fest has been commenced at the school on Jan 1st with hon'ble Education Minister, Shri. V. Sivankutty as the chief guest. Also, in the evening there was a proclamation rally from the school on the same day. On 3rd January no regular classes commenced as the government declared holiday for the schools hosting the arts festival from 3rd to 8th January. But I had duty on 3rd January as part of the welcoming ceremony of the prize cup at the school. I helped students to get ready for the program.

Because all these arrangements and holidays, I could only complete 5 lesson templated this week.

I included practice problems from the last section of the chapter 'Ratio' in lesson templates from 13 to 15. I included activity cards also in these lessons. In each lesson, I added two problems to do in the class and one each as home assignment for practice. By the lesson template no: 15, the chapter 'Ratio' has been completed.

In lesson template no: 16, the new chapter 'Area of Quadrilaterals' was started with a concept attainment model. The concept to be conveyed was 'Quadrilaterals'. I used models and ppt to show positive and negative examples of the concept to the students. I used ppt to consolidate the related and no related examples altogether. Then I used the whiteboard to write the properties of each examples shown. Thus the students paid attention to the class and identified the concept at the end.
