 Reflection of First Week of Teaching Practice




August 10, 2024


The first phase of teaching practice of semester III started on 5th August 2024. I was sent to Govt. Girls HS School, Cottonhill, Vazhuthacaud for the school internship phase. I teach under the guidance of two teachers there - Amina teacher and Sajith sir. I teach Mathematics at two classes - 9F and 8J. I have a total of 10 periods to take classes in a week.


This week was busy at school with preparations and screening tests held for selecting participants for School Arts and Sports Fests. I got duties for the same throughout this week. Another program was held at the school on 7th August 2024 by the Balavakasha Commission on the remembrance of victims from the This was the first week of my teaching practice. In the first three days of this week, I had no classes. My first is on Thursday. On this day, I started a new chapter in class 8. I taught about different shapes of polygons. For this, I used activity cards, geoboard, ppt containing the definition of polygons and models of shapes. I used inductive and heuristic method as methods of teaching. 


Next day, I taught about how to find the sum of angles of any polygon. For this, I used PPT containing the formula, activity cards, PPT containing different polygons and models of polygons. I used inductive, analytic and synthetic method as methods of teaching. I asked questions frequently to the students to ensure their active participation in the classroom. Wayanad Landslide.

  In this week, I started the chapter 'Ratio'. Sheeja teacher visited my class on 28/11/2024 for the first class observation during this phase. In this week, I completed 8 lesson templates from the chapter. In this week, I got many classes in 8E by substitutions by which I was able to complete the lesson templates with ease along with maintaining a rapport with the students.  In lesson template no:2, I prepared a lesson to introduce the principle of ratio of two quantities. I used activity cards and PPT as the teaching aids. For the activity, I used a chart as well. I put the generalized idea on the ppt. I also prepared an application question to use this principle. 8 th week reflection

  In this week, I took 9  lessons in total. Also, on Monday, I had my 2nd optional observation class by Sheeja teacher. There was a state-wide campaign program on drug abuse hosted by Cottonhill school on October 2nd, as part of the Gandhi Jayanti celebrations. The program was arranged by the Education Department, Govt. of Kerala, in which Hon'ble Education minister Shri. V. Shivankutty inaugurated the debate stage.  I studied some sections on the chapter identities in class 8. Inductive method is used as the method of teaching. The interaction between teacher and student was good. I can manage the class. My blackboard work was near and legible. For some of the class I used activity card, and used chart for presentation. I give proper reinforcement to the students. The students give proper response to my question. I think the overall performance was good in this week.
